Constructing a good password

We take security seriously within kuraCloud. For us to achieve our goal of protecting your data we need your help. One way you can help is by setting a good password and keeping it confidential, much like you protect the PIN for your bank card. To help you set a good password we have a "password strength meter" that gauges the strength of a password when you choose one.

To start you off on choosing a good password we require a minimum length of 8 characters. To turn this into a good password, that you find easy to remember but is hard for others to guess, we suggest that you should use some of the following:

  • Non-obvious numbers and symbols (using $ for s, @ for a, 3 for e or 0 for o is too obvious!)
  • A combination of words - ideally unusual ones that you can 'picture' (e.g. quadral zabra earwig)
  • A mixture of consonants and vowels to make passwords more phonetic (e.g. muk gab jol)
  • Non-standard uPPercasing (e.g. MuK zAbra joL)
  • Creative spelllling (e.g. quaddrralMMukjoLL)
  • Personal slang.

You should avoid using:

  • Personal information (e.g. people's names, birth dates, animals' names, etc.)
  • License plates, telephones numbers
  • Commonly spoken words
  • Simply adding numbers and/or characters to the end of a word.

Good password practices

  • Keep your password safe by not sharing it with anyone and making sure people don't watch you type it in.
  • Use different passwords for different services. By using different passwords you are protected if another service you use suffers a breach where passwords are stolen.
  • Change your password from time to time. This reduces the chance that the password is picked up by people around you.
  • Don't reuse old passwords, someone may have seen you type it in.
  • Only store your passwords in a place where you are sure only you have access (not in the browser).

Changing your password

To change your password from within kuraCloud, click on your name or email address in the top right corner of the window, and select Change Password.

Please use these guidelines when creating a new password.

Forgotten your password?

If you forget your password, click "Trouble logging in?" on the login page and a password reset page will appear. Enter your email address and you will be sent a link to reset your password.

Changing your email address (kura ID)

Your email address is your 'identity' within kuraCloud.

To change your email address, login to kuraCloud, click on your name or email address in the top right corner of the window, and select Change Email.

Enter your new email address into the Change email dialog box.

A confirmation email will be sent to your new email address. To complete the process, you must click the Continue button in the email. You will then be redirected to a kura id web page where you will be required to enter your password to confirm the change. This ensures that only you are able to change your email address.

Once you have completed the process, your kura ID will update and you will need to use it when you next log in.

Student Group Work

kuraCloud allows students to work as a group. Groups are formed simply by students logging in together using the Group Login page.

Everyone in the group gets a copy of the work done together and the work is graded individually.

Group Leader

By default, the first student who logs in as part of the group becomes the Group Leader.

When continuing an in-progress lesson, you will carry on from the work done by the previous group that your Group Leader was a part of.

For more information, see the Group Work section for Students.
